About Shanshan
Before Verdrobe I spent over five years in policy and strategy across the Australian public service. To my surprise, color analysis and policy development ask for the same thing: gather the evidence, form a view, and write it down clearly so it’s actionable.
I did not come to this through retail or fashion school. I came through more than a decade of building and rebuilding my own wardrobe, a long stretch of reading on construction, fabric and sustainability, and more recently a training in color analysis from a multi-disciplinary methodology.
Moving to San Francisco gave me the chance to take a career break and find my new ikigai outside policy. I am now a trained and certified personal color consultant, and in 2026 I was invited to moderate the Sustainable Fashion Panel during New York Fashion Week. I am passionate about color analysis because it brings together my appreciation for beauty, sensitivity to hue, a habit of hypothesis-led analysis, and my love for people.
Thank you to my husband, who is also my best friend, for making that possible. Outside Verdrobe I am usually deep in conversation with my friends, hunting down a good bakery, reading about AI safety, or keeping up with Australian politics.

01 · Trained and certified
I trained in a system that works from the European and North American methods alongside the Japanese and Korean ones, with real client cases. I am certified as a personal color consultant by the Korean Association of Personal Beauty Design. This means I bring the best of color analysis methodologies across continents, and work well with clients from diverse backgrounds.
02 · Clear reasoning and logic
With a career background in strategy and policy, I always bring the reasoning behind a recommendation. This means you will understand how we arrive at your coloring and remember it months later when you are in a shop on your own.
03 · Independent by design
I do not take commission from brands. This ensures that what I recommend is only about whether it is right for you.
04 · International experience
I was born in China, moved to Sydney as a teenager and now live in San Francisco. I work in Mandarin and English, and can access designers across the Asia Pacific.
