Most people have a vague sense that some colors work on them and others don’t. This 90-minute draping session shows you why, and identifies the colors that work best with your skin, iris and hair.

We start with what color analysis is and what the seasons mean, then drape one fabric after another until the answer is clear. Alongside your seasonal colors we test metal tones, cover your best colors for the office, and work through what your coloring means for hair, makeup and fragrance.

What happens in a session

I will send a short guide before the session to help you prepare. Sessions are in person only and travel to you is included in selected San Francisco neighborhoods.

01 · Introduction to color analysis

I explain what color analysis is, what seasonal colors are and what we look for in a session. This means you can follow the rest of the session and know what to expect.

02 · Draping

This is the fun part. I bring hundreds of fabrics and through draping, we watch what each one does to your skin tone, contours and complexion.

03 · Metal tones, office wear and more

We test what metal tones suit you the best and cover the colors that work best for you at work. We will also go through what your coloring means for hair, makeup and fragrance.

04 · Something to take home

You will leave with two palette cards and a personalized report. I will also send through phone wallpapers in your coloring and a summary report on your season. This means you can always go back to it and apply your coloring to shopping, makeup and styling.

FAQ

Questions people ask

What is personal color analysis?

It is a draping session to help you find what color palette suits you the best. During the session, I analyze coloring on four dimensions: hue, lightness/darkness, saturation and clarity. This is done through holding fabric in different colors next to your face and observing what each one does to your skin, your eyes and contours. Some colors make you look rested and defined. Others make you look tired, or make the fabric the thing people notice instead of you.

What happens in a session, and how long does it take?

Ninety minutes for a one to one session. We start with an introduction to color analysis and then drape to find your coloring. We finish with metal tones, your best colors for the office, and what your coloring means for hair, makeup and fragrance.

What should I wear, and do I need to come with no makeup on?

The analysis is most accurate if it’s done with no makeup on. Also, wear or bring something with a wide neckline so your clothes are not competing with the drapes, and tie long hair back. I send a short guide on what to expect before the session.

Can it be done online, or from photographs?

Not reliably. Screens, phone cameras and room lighting all shift color. Different fabrics also bounce different lights and tones to your face and interact with your complexion, which is hard to simulate online. While the analysis is in person, the personal shopping consultation that follows it can be remote.

Do I have to get rid of the clothes that are not in my palette?

No, and I advise my clients not to. A palette is a buying tool for future purchases, and throwing out perfectly fine clothes is the opposite of taking the long view.

Is it worth it?

From personal experience and client feedback, yes it is worth it. Knowing more about your personal color helps you shop pieces that genuinely suit you instead of the latest trend.

Do you run sessions in Mandarin?

Yes, 中英文皆可. Sessions run in whichever you prefer, and your written report can come in either language.

Do you travel to me?

Yes, and travel is included in selected San Francisco neighborhoods. If you live somewhere else in the Bay Area, please let me know and we can work out a travel arrangement.
